Looking back

In this post, I will explain an assignment I want you to complete at least 24 hours before our next class. ここで、次の授業の24時間前までにまとめてもらう課題を説明します。This assignment is absolutely required of all of you who have written fewer that 3 times on your blogs this semester. この課題は3回以上投稿していないメンバーにとっては「必ずしなければならない」ものです。If you have written 3 or more times this semester, this is optional for you (and thanks for writing more regularly than your classmate). 3回以上ブログに投稿しているメンバーにとっては任意の課題となります（マメにブログを更新してくれて、ありがとうございました）。

OK! So here's what I want you to do. さて、次のことをして欲しいと思います。

What （何を）:

Write about one of the following. 次の中の一つについて書いてください。

• A topic that came up in class this semester and that interested or surprised you but that you have no yet written about on your blog.  今学期の授業の中で興味をもったテーマ、または驚いた話など（しかし、既にブログで書いていることは不可）。
• Your communication with other students (particularly students from other countries) in this class.  この授業における学生同士のコミュニケーション（特に自分と他の国にからの学生とのコミュニケーション）について。If you write about this topic, you might write about what was difficult, why it was difficult, and what strategies might help make things better.  このテーマを選んだ場合には、何が難しかったか、どうして難しかったか、そしてどうしたら改善できるかについて書くといいでしょう。If you would like to present criticism of and/or suggestions for how I can do a better job as facilitator you are welcome to do so but only after you have written a paragraph or two that focuses on your own struggle to communicate effectively in the class. ゼミ運営者としての私の役割を批評したり、批判したりすることも結構ですが、そのような批評や批判の前に、まず自分自身がどのようにコミュニケーションをはかろうとしていたかについて１、２段落を書いてください。

What language（どの言語で）:

English or Japanese. 日本語または英語。（I'm sorry that I don't understand other languages; その他の言語ができなくてすみません。）

How much（どのぐらい）:

Wadaiko

There will be a Waidaiko performances during the second and forth periods on Wednesday, Dec. 14th. 12月14日の2限目と4限目に、和太鼓のパフォーマンスがあります。The performances will take place in the Takahashi Hall in Building 14. 14号館の高橋記念ホールで行われます。This is part of another class but I have been asked to invite all interested students to come. 他の授業の一貫として行われるパフォーマンスですが、どなんでも歓迎するそうです。

Bullying / イジメ

On Monday, we talked about bullying.  月曜日にはイジメについて話しました。

Coincidentally, Lady Gaga has been in the news in relation to this topic recently.  偶然ですが、最近、レディー・ガガのイジメ関連の取り組みに関するニュースを見ました。

On Monday of last week, we talked about the concepts of 'society' and 'seken.'  先週の月曜日には「社会」と「世間」の概念について話しました。Here's the table that I showed in class.  授業で見せた表をここに載せます。

Dependence (amae) and cuteness

Kelsee and Pang both posted some interesting observations on their blogs. KelseeさんとPangさんはブログで興味深い投稿をしました。I think that both points are related to the idea of amae or "dependence." 両方とも「甘え」（英語には「甘え」とちょうど同じ概念がありませんが、"dependence"が近いとされている）と関係があると思います。

Today, I would like to begin by having you talk about the questions in a short survey I have prepared. 今日は、授業のはじめには少人数のグループで私が用意した簡単なアンケートに答えてもらいたいとおもいます。Please discuss the questions that you answered differently. グループのメンバーの間で、回答にずれがあった問について話し合ってみてください。The question relate to the concept of amae. 問は「甘え」の概念と関係があります。

Next, I'd like you to prepare short skits in which you illustrate the verbs amaeru and amayakasu. 次に「甘える」や「甘やかす」という動詞を表す寸劇を演じてほしいと思います。If we have time, I would like to follow this with more discussion. 時間が許せば、寸劇の後にディスカッションをしたいと思います。
