Minamata Trip Schedule

Visit to Kokai

Next week, on the April 27th, we will visit Kokai Shotengai (a traditional market).  来週（4月27日）子飼商店街（伝統的な市場）に行きます。We will divide into small groups today and next week each group will walk to Kokai together.  今日は少人数のグループに分かれますが、来週は同じメンバーのグループで商店街へ歩いてください。Here's a map showing the location. 下記のGoogle Mapに場所は示してあります。

Today, you should get the contact information of all the members of your group.  今日はグループのメンバーの携帯番号など、連絡でぎるよう情報交換してください。If you will not be able to participate next week, be sure to let the other members of your group know about that.  来週、参加できないようなことがあれば、グループのメンバーにそのことをかなず知らせてください。

1. Preparation 準備
   Please look at the web sites of Kokai Shotengai and Fujisaki Hachimangu. 子飼商店街や藤崎八幡宮のそれぞれのウェブサイトを見てください。
2. Departure 出発
   Please gather at a place of your choosing so you can begin walking to Kokai by 10:40. 10:40ごろまでに出発できるように、自分たちで決めた場所で集まってください。Please don't worry about waiting for members of other groups. 他のグループのことを気にしないで、自分のグループのメンバーがそろったら、出発してください。If someone is more that five minutes late and you cannot get in touch with them, I think you should go ahead an leave. 連絡できないまま5分以上遅れるメンバーがいた場合は、やむを得ず、出発した方がいいと思います。If it looks like it will rain and we need to postpone this activity, I will indicate that on this blog by Thursday evening at 6 PM. 雨になりそうで、キャンセルをしなければならないような場合には、木曜日の午後6時までにこのブログでそのことを伝えます。
3. After 12:10
   Officially, this class only lasts until 12:10.  この授業は12:10までとなっていいます。If you have another class or a part-time job soon after 1:00, then you may have to leave Kokai early.  4時限目の授業が入っている、あるいはアルバイトなどの用事がある場合には早目にもどらなければならないと思います。If, however, you do not have another commitment, I hope you will take you time and enjoy a leisurely lunch in the Kokai area.  授業などがなければ、子飼周辺をゼミの友達と一緒にゆっくりとお昼を食べたりすることを楽しんでもらいたいと思います。
4. Questions you might want to ask 場合によっては、次のようなことを店の人に聞くといいかもしれません。
   
   1. 景気（けいき）はどうですか？(How's business?)
   2. ここは常連（じょうれん）のお客（きゃく）さんが多いですか？(Are a lot of your customers regulars?)
   3. おうちはここですか？(Is this store your home?)
   4. こちらは代々（だいだい）引（ひ）き継（つ）がれているお店（みせ）ですか？Has this shop be passed down through the generations?
   5. 熊大（くまだい）からの留学生（りゅうがくせい）はよく来ますか？(Do foreign students from Kumamoto University come here often?)
5. Follow up その後
   The following week, I will ask the members of each group to say a few words about their experience. その次の週、それぞれのグルーブのメンバーに経験したことについて少し話してもらうます。Then we will talk about why such traditional market places are having difficulty competing with modern malls and shopping centers, and whether anything should be done to protect them.  その後、こういう伝統的な商店街が大型のショッピングセンターなどとの競争で大きな打撃を受けているなか、守るための政策が必要かどうかについて議論してみたいと思います。

Nagasaki Itinerary

Saturday the 11th、11日（土曜日）

• Departure from rotary, near main entrance 正門近くのロータリーから出発 (7:20)
• Ferry フェリー (Arrive at Kumamoto Port at 8:00; 8:00に熊本港到着; arrive at Shimabara Port at 9:30; 9:30に島原港着)
• Michi no Eki Mizunashi Honjin 道の駅みずなし本陣 (9:40-10:00)
• Remains of Hara Castle 原城跡 (10:40 - 11:10)
• Lunch at Kapo Shiro 割烹 城で昼食 (長崎県南島原市南有馬町丁170, 0957-85-2148 (11:15 - 12:00)
• Kuchinotsu Harbor 口之津港 (12:15 - 12:30)
• Ashiyu at Obama Onsen 小浜温泉の足湯 (1:00 - 1:20)
• Nagasaki Catholic Center Youth Hostel カトリックセンター長崎 (2:45) We will leave our bags here. 荷物を起きます。(095-846-4246)
• Oura Cathedral, Glover Garden 大浦天主堂・グラバー園（バスが熊本に戻る）
• Shikairo (champon restaurant), ANA Crowne Plaza Nagasaki Gloverhill (Pave), or restaurant of your choice　四海楼でちゃんぽん、ANA Crowne Plaza Nagasaki Gloverhill のPaveというレストランでイタリア料理のバイキン、またはその他のレストランで食事など
• View from Mt Inasa 稲佐山から夜景を楽しむ（希望者のみ、山を登るためのロープウェイは有料）
• Nagasaki Catholic Center Youth Hostel カトリックセンター長崎
 095-846-4246 You must return no later than 11:00 PM. どんなに遅くとも11:00までに戻らなければなりません。

Sunday the 12th、 12日（日曜日）

• Breakfast 朝食
 You can buy coffee for 100 yen but food will not be provided. Saturday evening you must buy something to eat in the morning. コーヒーは100円で飲めますが、食べ物はでません。前の日にパンなどを買っておいてください。
• Urakami Cathedral / 浦上天主堂 (Early risers may attend mass until checkout at about 9:30; 早く起きる人は9:00ごろのチェックアウトの時間までミサに参加できます。)
• Peace Park / 平和公園 (We will walk there.  徒歩で行きます。We will meet Mr. Hayasaki, a hibakusha, along the way.  途中で被爆者である早崎猪之助様と一緒になります。)
• Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum 長崎原爆資料館 (We will walk there and remain until about 10:45 or.  徒歩で行き、10:45ごろまでいます。)
• To the trolley to Dejima and/or China Town.  路面電車で出島および中華街に移動。
• Return bus 帰りのバス (3:00発、湊公園から; Leave at 3:00 from Minato Park;  Minato Park is at the end of China Town that is farthest from Urakami, where we stayed)
• Trip ends at Gakuendai 学園大で解散 (18:00)
