Assignment

Today I am planning to have you talk about the following topics.  今日の授業で次のテーマについて話し合ってもらいたいと考えています。

• Was the visit to Kokai worthwhile? 子飼に行ってよかったか？
• Should there be regulations to protect shotengai?　 商店街を保護するための規制は必要か？
• Minamata disease 水俣病
• Cultural differences you have noticed 今まで気がついた文化的な違い

By Monday of next week, write a short comment (a line or two) in our Facebook group about one of these topics or another topic that comes up in class.  来週の月曜日までに、これらの中の一つテーマ、また授業中で話題になった他のテーマについて短いコメント（1, 2行）を書いてください。You may comment on someone else's comment instead of starting an original comment.  新しいコメントを書く代わりに、他のゼミ生が書いたことに対するコメントを書いてもいいです。

Minamata Trip Costs

I'm not exactly sure how much our trip to Minamata will cost per person yet but I have a pretty good idea. まだ、水俣へのゼミ旅行にいくらかかるかがはっきりとわかりませんが、だいたいわかります。Many of the costs will be the same as a similar trip I led students on last year.  多くの費目は去年引率した水俣への旅行と同じになります。To see a post about those costs, click here. ここをクリックすれば、去年の旅行費用に関する説明を読むことができます。As I posted earlier, this year we will stay at a ryokan. 以前、このブログで伝えたように、今回は旅館に泊まります。The ryokan will cost 6,000 yen but two meals are included.  旅館は6,000円ですが、２食がついています。Those costs totaled about 4,000 yen last year so this year will cost at least 2,000 yen more. 去年、宿泊と土曜の夕方の食事、日曜の朝の食事の合計は4,000円程度でしたので、去年と比べて今年は2,000円ほど高くなります。

On Sunday you will need to buy something to eat for lunch and, if you want to go on various rides in Ashikita and/or Otachimisaki you have to pay for that yourself. 日曜日にはお昼が自己負担となりますし、芦北や御立岬で乗り物に乗って遊ぶならその費用も計算に入れなければなりません。

Kokai

The weather is very nice today.  今日は天気がいいですね。I think it's a great day to visit Kokai.  子飼商店街に行くにはたいへんいい日だと思います。I understand some sort or sale is underway in Kokai so it may be a little crowded.  今日は何らかの安売りの催しがあるそうですので、少し込むかも知れません。

By the way, today I have a meeting during the noon hour so I won't be able to get to Kokai until a little after 1 PM.  ところで、今日のお昼は会議が入りましたので、私自身が子飼商店街につくのは1時すぎになりそうです。I hope to see many of you there.  そこで多くの皆さんに会いたいと思います。

Minamata Trip

I just reserved Kikuya Ryokan for our trip on May 19th.  先ほど、喜久屋旅館を5月19日のゼミ旅行のために予約しました。It got a really good onsen and we will get to two meals (evening and morning) for ¥6,000, a pretty good price I think. 温泉は非常にいいし、２食（晩ご飯と朝食）がついていて6,000円というのはけっして高くないと思います。In addition, there are some beautiful waterfalls nearby that I hope we will have time to check out.  しかも、近くにたいへんきれいな滝があり、時間が許せば是非見たいと思います。

4. Do you enjoy shopping?  買い物は楽しいと思いますか？
5. Would you shop at a shotengai even if you knew it were not as convenient? 他ほど便利でなくとも、商店街で買い物をしますか？
6. Do you think that traditional shopping areas in your country will gradually disappear?  自分の国にある伝統的な商店街はなくなっていくと思いますか？
7. What are  traditional shopping areas in your country like?  あなたの国の伝統的な商店街はどういうところですか？
