Third class

Things to do in class today
  1. Check photos and names
  2. Seminar trip(ゼミ旅行)
    • Minamata trip slide show(水俣旅行のスライドショー)
    • Minamata blog entries(水俣旅行関連のブログ記事)
    • Kumagawa video(球磨川ビデオ)
    • Kawabegawa video(川辺川ビデオ)
  3. Relations between men and women
    • From your blogs(皆さんのブログから)
    • Cool Japan video about "herbivore men"

From your blogs (皆さんのブログから)

(America and England seem to be much more open about relations between boys and girls than Korea and China.)(LEE HWA YOUNG
  • I guess I'm just curious how the Japanese students in our class would view a girl and boy hanging out together. Would the assume they were a couple or just friends?
(People in China tend to be conservative and think that "one night stands" are dirty.)(Raine)
  • I believe that in the end topics dealing with such sensitive subjects as sex are going to get little to nowhere in a classroom setting and if anyone seriously wanted to find out about sexual habits or norms in Japan they'd be much better off finding a boyfriend or girlfriend here and asking them.(日本文化におけるセックスなどについて教室で議論しようとしてもうまくいかないでしょう。 (Kumamoto The Make You Town)
  • I found it interesting to find out last class that in Japan, and Korea, it is more common to have a sex friend then it is to have a one night stand. (Seminar 3)
  • Does the typical japanese couple have may affairs or is that rare?

* It is not necessary to use your real name on your blog. If you would like to use a nickname or fictitious name to protect your privacy, that's fine. As the course proceeds I will make sure that the participants in the course understand which blog belongs to whom.

* After you make your blog (even before you complete your first post), send the address of your blog to me at masden@kumagaku.ac.jp

* I will give you assignments to do on your blogs but I encourage you to go beyond individual assignments and make additions to your blog whenever you have a comment or question that you think might be relevant to this class.

      • Are there any cultural differences that you have noticed or are interested in talking about?

    4. After you have made a list of topics, split your group into two groups of two or three people each. There should be at least one Japanese person and at least one non-Japanese person in each pair or group of three people. Find out a little about each other. Later today, write a little about who you talked to on your blog.
